Any tips for first time at the track?

Hi Guys,

I've got a 98 Cobra stock except for some Steeda underdrive pulleys. What RPM should I be launching from? I have the stock 3.27 gears on Nitto 555 Radials.

Thanks in advance.

Nitto 555 drag radials, or just regular old radials? If DRs then I set my tyre pressure to 20ish and drop the clutch at 4K after doing a small burnout. But, there are too many variables (such as track condition, suspension setup, etc.) to tell if this will work for you.

Haha, my tires are just plain old radials that were purchased beginning of this year. I'm running the stock suspensions so I'll see what my times will be.

Thanks for the replys.

do a very short burnout to clean the tires off. try about 25 psi in the tires. basically you want to get off the line with just a quick squeel and stick.

play with launch RPM, dumping vs slipping the clutch, etc.

By all means even if you had DRs, I wouldn't drop the clutch cause you would either bog or spin.

What I would do is try launching as high as possible starting at 2K, and don't drop the clutch let it slip a little and try to get the throttle to the floor as quick as possible.

I was able to pull of mid 2.0 60' times, on street tires. That was launching from about 2.5K. Good luck.

Thanks for all the advice.

I think I'll launching at around 2K and see what happens on the first run and then adjust my RPM's according for subsequent runs.

No, me and my crew are pretty much done with going to Fontucky. They are having Mustang Drag Day at LACR the following week, we'll be going to that.

Yeah, that just doesn't work at all. Apart for my car of course. I get 1.8 60' times from just dumping the clutch. Like I said, each car's different.
