I would just like to get a feel for how many of us have a drag strip (or strips if you're really lucky) nearby.

Please include in your post:

1 .. The name of the track
2 .. The city and state the track is in
3 .. If the track is an NHRA or "backyard"/local track
4 .. If the track is 1/4 mile or 1/8 mile (and if it may include autoX)

For me ...
1 .. Englishtown Raceway Park & Island Dragway
2 .. Englishtown NJ & Great Meadows NJ
3 .. NHRA & Local (In the middle of a sod farm)
4 .. Both tracks are 1/8 mile, and Etown has support for autoX

Never been there ... it's just too much of a drive compared to E'town and Island. There is an NMRA stop there though in a couple weeks ... hmmmm...

I'm close to HRP and Lone Star raceway. I haven't been to Lonestar, but I also haven't heard of really many of my buds going to that strip. It's definitely closer than HRP, I might just have to go check it out one day. Hey Blueoval, when ya wanna go?

Are the tracks in TX mostly 1/4 or 1/8 mile (or mixed)?

Saleen91

Mixed.

There's 2 1/8 mile tracks and 1 1/4 mile track close to me.

Houston Raceway Park 1/4 mile NHRA track
Lone Star Raceway 1/8 mile IHRA track
Navasota Raceway (aka the Nasty) 1/8 mile RedNeck track. this is where big block, lots of nitrous, and plenty of cash betting happen regularly :)

Yeah, it's only an 1/8 mile track, but since it is THAT close to you, who cares ... that is awesome! You mostly only need an1/8th mile for tuning.

15 to race, 10 to watch

Lonestar is well known for being at least .1 seconds slower than HRP. Or at least it is everytime I go.

1. 75/80 Dragway
2. Capitol Raceway
3. Maryland International Raceway
4. Mason Dixon Dragway

I'm sure there's a bunch more by me. I'm about 30 minutes from 75/80 and Capitol, and about 45 minutes - 1 hour away from Mason Dixon and MIR. As far as being backyard or NHRA, I know for sure that MIR and Capitol are NHRA tracks. Mason Dixon I'm not sure about, and 75/80 is a piece of cockroach shit. I'm pretty sure thats a backyard track.

It's actually 75-80 "Drag-a-way" ... crazy name!

It is a great track ... been there once and ran 12.899 with a near bone stock motor setup and the Jeggster control arms.

Many of the racers were drinking, and when I was pulled through the staging lanes a bit quickly, I put my beer down, and the guy just said to finish it.

NOT that I condone drinking and racing, but a couple pops did help me to relax a bit on that starting line. :D
